Uljanik

The Uljanik shipyard is a Croatian shipbuilding company, located in the capital of Istrian Pula, Croatia. The term Uljanik finds its origin in the earlier olive crop at the shipyard island ( kroat. maslinovo ulje - olive oil). The yard has been producing about six ships a year.

History

The shipyard was established in 1856 by the Austrian navy as kk Pola naval arsenal founded. The foundation stone for the building was laid by the Austrian Empress Elisabeth. In October 1860 the first ship ran " SMS Kaiser " from the stack. For the Austro-Hungarian Navy a total of 55 ships were built. The naval arsenal was also the maintenance and repair of ships of the Imperial Navy.

After the First World War, the shipyard was operated under Italian rule for repair of old ships. Furthermore, the yard served as a docking station and was used for the cutting of old ships. During the Second World War, the Uljanik shipyard was a German naval base.

From the year 1947, the shipyard was in the newly founded Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In 1951, a new ship was built for the first time. The construction of marine engines and electronic systems has been continuously developed. Since the year 1990, the Uljanik shipyard is run as a public company Croatian law. In 1998, the Uljanik shipyard went through a major technical renewal process.

From the year 1947 to the year 2000, 201 vessels were launched. Converted to a total of 6 million DWT were produced for buyers from all over the world by the year 2000.

Corporate fields

The Uljanik shipyard is able to develop various kinds of ships and to produce: crude oil tankers, tankers for petrochemicals, container ships, bulk carriers, passenger vessels, vessels for automotive transport, ro-ro vessels.

In November 2008, the ship " Grande Angola " ( 24800 dwt) was delivered to the Italian company Grimaldi. This ship is the first of seven on order RoRo car carrier vessels.
