Ullrich Dießner

Ullrich Dießner (* December 27, 1954 in Meissen ) is a former rower from the GDR. In 1980 he became Olympic champion in the four with coxswain.

Life

Ullrich Dießner is the younger brother of Walter Dießner while Walter Dießner was born shortly before midnight, Ullrich came shortly thereafter to the world and therefore has a different birthday than his twin brother. Both brothers learned alongside their rowing career to the profession of toolmaking and both trained at SC Einheit Dresden under Hans Eckstein.

In 1972, the two junior world champion in pairs without coxswain. After winning the 1974 the brothers together with Ruediger Kunze, Andreas Schulz and helmsman Wolfgang Groß the world title in the senior category in the four with coxswain. 1975 won the boat in the same occupation World Championship silver behind the quad from the Soviet Union. Also at the Olympic Games 1976 Dresden coxed four were subject to the boat from the Soviet Union, but was now John Thomas helmsman for Wolfgang Groß. After these two silver medals of the four was reshuffled, 1977 and 1978 were the two Dießners with Gottfried Döhn, Dieter Wendish and helmsman Andreas Gregor and each won the world title. Until then, the four had set out only with rowers unit of Dresden, for the 1979 season drew oarsmen from Leipzig and Potsdam in the boat. In the occupation Dießner Ullrich, Jens Doberschütz, Walter Dießner, Bernd Schlufter and helmsman Lutz Werner the boat again won the world title for the Dießners it was the third consecutive title and fourth overall. At the Olympic Games 1980, the foursome came back on in the Dresden occupation of 1977 and 1978, together with Döhn, Wendish and Gregory were the Dießners in Moscow Olympic champion, where they had four and a half seconds ahead of the Soviet boat in the target.

1981 started the Dießners in the GDR rollercoaster, but occupied in the World Cup only fourth place. Ullrich Dießner therefore moved back in 1982 in the coxed four, which now consisted of Dresden and Rostock rowers. In the occupation Dießner Ullrich, Ulrich Kons, Hans Senne Forest, Thomas Greiner and helmsman Andrew Gregory the foursome won the world title. The following year, Dießner, Greiner and Gregory formed a twin with coxswain and won in this boat class the world title. After the Olympics start in 1984 because of the Olympics boycott of the Eastern Bloc countries was impossible Dießner Ullrich ended his career and was an assistant to his longtime coach Hans Eckstein.

Ullrich Dießner awarded in 1976 with the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze and silver in 1980.
