Ulrich Stockmann

Ulrich Stockmann ( born January 1, 1951 in Oebisfelde ) from 1994 to 2009 European Member of Parliament for the Social Democrats in the Socialist Group in the European Parliament.

Life and career

After graduation Stockmann studied urban planning in Weimar (1969-1973), after which he was employed as Dipl.- Ing. at the Academy for Industrial and General Building Development in Berlin ( 1973-1975 ). From 1975 to 1976 he worked in the office of the chief architects of Berlin.

From 1976 to 1982 he studied in Naumburg (Saale ) and Berlin theology. The first theological examination put Stockmann in 1982, the second in 1985., He was ordained to minister in 1988. From 1988 to 1990 he was county youth and student pastor at Naumburg.

He is married and has two children.

Party

In 1989, he joined the Social Democratic Party of the GDR ( SDP). Stockmann was co-founder and chairman of the Naumburg Local and District Association of the SPD. After the district reform in 1994, he was Chairman of the District Association castle district to the district reform in 2007. Stockmann is a member of the SPD state Board of Saxony -Anhalt since 1990.

Member of Parliament

Stockmann was a member of the first freely elected People's Chamber of the GDR. Here he was Head of the Working Group 's foreign policy and Deputy SPD parliamentary group.

Then he was from October 1990 to February 1991 Member of the German Bundestag. In February 1991 he was sent as an observer for Saxony- Anhalt to the European Parliament, where he served as a full member since the European elections in July 1994. For the European elections in June 2009, Stockmann was eliminated due to its location and list the poor showing of the SPD in the covenant of the European Parliament.
