Ulrich Viefers

Ulrich Viefers ( born May 26, 1972 in Oberhausen ) is a former rower who won an Olympic silver medal in aft 1996.

Ulrich Viefers launched for the rowing club on Lake Baldeney. In 1993 he won the coxed four in the cast Stefan Forster, Mark Kleinschmidt, Ulrich Viefers, Marc Weber and helmsman Guido large the German championship and finished in the World Cup third place. 1994 and 1995 respectively Viefers sat in the coxless four and won twice the sixth place at the World Championship.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 Viefers sat in Germany aft. Frank Richter, Mark Kleinschmidt, tungsten chicken, Marc Weber, Detlef Kirchhoff, Thorsten Streppelhoff, Ulrich Viefers and batsman Roland Baar rowing with coxswain Peter Thiede in the Olympic final, almost two seconds behind the Dutch boat to the finish and received the silver medal. 1997 belonged Viefers again to Germany eight, took fifth place at the World Championship. Until 1999 Viefers remained in the vicinity of Germany rowing eight active, but was no longer present at the major championships.

Ulrich Viefers is diabetic since 1995; but he could continue with daily insulin injections his competitive sports career.
