Ulriksbanen

The Ulriksbanen leads as cable car to the summit of Ulrika ( 643 m above sea level. M. ), the highest of the seven mountains to Fjellhöhen. In some German books there is also the translation of Bergen Hochfjellseilbahn.

At the top station there is a restaurant at the summit, which is also the starting point of many hiking trails. The base station (44 m above sea level. M. ) is located southeast of the center, above the Haukeland Hospital.

Accidents

The only accident in the history of Ulriksbanen occurred in 1974. On 9 July, one of the gondolas peeled off, where four people were killed. After the accident, the train was closed and opened again in 1979. The local mountain hiking organization took over the business in 1983, but had to keep 1988 and 1989, closed for financial reasons, the web.

Security Issues

On 10 January 2006 the tramway was closed because one suspension cable had jumped. The track was reopened on 4 March 2006 and worked until August of the same year, when the police had to close the track after a safety inspection. Ulriksbanen adopted on 1 April 2007 the operation again; but in January 2008 it was closed again because there was a danger that the ropes would not guarantee safe operation. On 1 May 2009, the railway was opened again.
