Ulster Scots dialects

Ulster Scots is a group of dialects spoken in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland - or a language ( depending, is defined as " language "). Ulster Scots originated when Scottish settlers in the 17th century settled in the north of Ireland to the Ulster Plantations and brought with them their native language. The descendants of these Presbyterian settlers now make up a large part of the Protestant majority in Northern Ireland.

Other names for Ulster Scots are Scots, Braid Scots or Scotch.

It is estimated the number of speakers at 30,000 to 100,000.
