Ultra

Ultra (from Latin: beyond, spelling occasionally: ULTRA ) was the code name for the intelligence information that could win the British military during the Second World War from the decipherment and analysis of the encrypted secret German message traffic. The term has been adopted as well by American intelligence. The name Ultra derives from the consideration that this information was assessed as extremely important and had to be kept secret at all costs and thus a level of secrecy still on the then highly available Most Secret ( German: " Top Secret " ) had to be created. They have therefore been classified as "ultra - secret". The Americans called in turn derived from the Japanese material as Magic.
