Uluguru bushbaby

The Berggalago or Uluguru ( dwarf ) Galago ( Galago orinus or Galagoides orinus ) is a primate of the family of galagos ( Galagonidae ).

Features

Berggalagos among the smaller members of the galagos, they reach a body length 14-15 centimeters, the tail is 17 to 19 centimeters longer than the hull. Their fur is colored reddish brown at the top, the underside is lighter. The head is characterized as with all Galagos by the enlarged eyes, and large, mobile ears.

Distribution and habitat

Berggalagos are located in eastern Africa. Their range includes highlands in Tanzania as the Uluguru mountains, Udzungwa Mountains and the Usambara Mountains. Similar animals are also known from the Taita hills in Kenya, whether this is the same type, is still unclear. Habitat of this species are the mountain forests in 1200-2000 meters above sea level.

Way of life

Little is known about the habits of these animals. Like all Galagos they are nocturnal and usually stay on the trees. You go alone in search of food, but may often sleep together in a sleeping nest. The food of Berggalagos should consist of insects, fruits and tree sap.

Endangering

Main threat to the Berggalagos, the destruction of their habitat dar. Its distribution area is relatively small ( about 20,000 km ² ) and highly fragmented. The IUCN lists the species as Near Threatened ( " near threatened ").
