Ululation

An ululation is a long, high sound with fast varying pitch, a special kind of howling. Who ululiert, fast moving tongue and uvula and sings at the same time a high note. Already in ancient Greece ululation was known as an exclamation of joy. The vocal technique is used in certain rituals and is a domain of women.

In Arab countries, where it is called Zaghruta, it is often used as an expression of joy, especially at weddings.
