Umaga (wrestler)

Edward Umar Fatu ( born March 28, 1973 in San Francisco, California, † December 4, 2009 in Houston, Texas), better known by his ring name Umaga, was an American professional wrestler of Samoan descent. He worked until June 8, 2009, the wrestling organization World Wrestling Entertainment where he performed at their weekly programs and events. Fatu continued the tradition of the great and very successful wrestling family Anoa'i. His biggest success was the two-time receipt of the WWE Intercontinental Champion title.

Life and death

Edward Fatu was a member of the represented for decades in the wrestling Anoa'i family. He was the brother of Solofa Fatu ( Headshrinker Fatu / Rikishi ) and Sam Fatu ( Tonga Kid). His cousins ​​included, among other things, Dwayne Johnson ( The Rock), Samula Anoa'i ( Headshrinker Samu ), Matt Anoa'i ( Rosey / Kimo ) and the late Rodney Anoa'i ( Yokozuna ). The former Wild Samoans Arthur Anoa'i ( Afa ) and Leati Anoa'i ( Sika ) and James Heron ( Jimmy " Superfly " Snuka ) were his uncle. His nephew Jonathan and Joshua Fatu ( Jey Uso and Jimmy ) are currently active for the WWE in SmackDown brand.

On 4 December 2009 Fatu was admitted to a hospital in Houston after he was found at home by his wife lifeless watching television sitting. According to media statements he suffered on the morning of December 4, a heart attack. In the hospital, he suffered another heart attack and died 17-18 clock local time.

The reasons for the two heart attacks prevailed for a long period of uncertainty, an autopsy revealed finally a mixture of painkillers, Valium and Soma muscle relaxant drug, which led to death Fatus in this combination.

Career

Beginnings / World Wrestling Federation

Fatu was trained by his uncle Afa and began in 1995 with the wrestling. In 1996 he was briefly seen in the then World Wrestling Federation, when he appeared in Angles with his cousin Matt and his brother Anoa'i Solofa Fatu. Along with Matt, he joined the then tag team The Iceland Boyz mainly in smaller independent leagues until they were committed in 2002 by the WWE.

Fatus first time WWE has ended without any major success after almost a year after he came outside a nightclub in a real confrontation with a man.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling / All Japan Pro Wrestling

A few months after his release Fatu was engaged by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

Later Fatu moved to Japan and went on for All Japan Pro Wrestling. Together with Maunakea Mossman ( Taiyo Kea ), he participated in the World's Strongest Tag Team League 2004, which allowed the two to decide for themselves. In January 2005, they could win the AJPW Unified World Tag Team Championship Titles and held them for almost a year. They had to lose the title, returned as Fatu in December 2005 to WWE.

World Wrestling Entertainment

Fatu went from 3 April 2006 to as Umaga on RAW. First, he could win a series of squash matches. From the end of the year until the next year's Royal Rumble feuded Fatu unsuccessfully against the WWE Champion John Cena.

On 19 February 2007, he was allowed the Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy defeated in RAW and so won his first title. There followed a feud with the McMahon family against Bobby Lashley to June 2007. On 16 April 2007 he had while his Intercontinental title against the then lose debuting Santino Marella, but could use that to win back on July 2, 2007. In the RAW output on 3 September 2007, he had to lose his title to Jeff Hardy, as Umaga was suspended for doping 30 days from the WWE.

On 23 June 2008 was allowed to Fatu Friday broadcast Smackdown change. However, he was injured shortly thereafter and was sidelined until January 2009. Shortly afterward, he was injured again and returned to the SmackDown show from 1 May 2009 as the feud opponents of CM Punk back. On 7 June 2009, he played his last WWE match against selfsame at Extreme Rules. A day later, WWE announced on their website to have Fatu dismissed for violating the Wellness Policy.

Independent, Hulkamania

A few days after his release from WWE Umaga was back for the WWC in the ring. In November 2009, he took the name Osu Fatu at hosted by Hulk Hogan " Hulkamania Let The Battle Begin Tour" part, where he played four matches.
