Umberto Pelizzari

Umberto Pelizzari ( born August 28, 1965 in Busto Arsizio ) is a former Italian freediver and world champions in different freediving disciplines.

Life

Umberto Pelizzari learned as a child to swim and had a successful professional sports swimmer. 1984 - at the age of 19 years - he started freediving at a height of 189 cm and a body weight of 84 kg. Around 1990, he was a close friend of Pipin Ferreras Francisco, husband of Audrey Mestre- Ferreras. The history of deep-sea diving competition between Pelizzari and Pipin was the plot for the production Imax Ocean Men: Extreme Dive, 2001, the Bob Talbot turned.

Pelizzari was one of the founding members of the Association Internationale pour le Développement de l' Apnée, AIDA. In 1995, he presented with a depth of 72 meters, a world record at the " Diving with constant weight " on. In the ranking variable weight up to 30 kg in discipline "No Limits", he reached a new record in the following year with 110 meters. In the "No Limits" class with no weight limit, he appeared in the same year in 3:32 minutes 131 feet deep and thus kept records in all categories without breathing apparatus. 1996 and 2001 was Pelizzari AIDA World Champion with the Italian national team.

2001 ended Pelizzari his apnea career.

Pelizzari is currently a professor at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and television presenter. He sits in front of the Apnea Academy and wrote with his former coach Stefano Tovaglieri a high-circulation Manual of freediving.
