Umbria Jazz Festival

The Jazz Festival Umbria Jazz ( UJ ) is a music festival that takes place annually in July since 1973 for ten days in Perugia. It is considered one of the most important European jazz festivals.

In addition to jazz also occur rock, pop, world music and blues musicians such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, James Brown, Alicia Keys and Sting. Played back in the 1970s here jazz greats like Miles Davis, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie (1976 ), Herbie Hancock, Enrico Rava and Lionel Hampton. History

First artistic director was Alberto Alberti. After its creation in 1973, there was an interruption from 1977 until 1981. Ladder was from the 1980s, Carlo Pagnotta, who was temporarily in charge of the program due to its success in the Umbria Festival, among other things at the Melbourne Jazz Festival. 2001 Umbria Jazz had 200,000 visitors.

Winter Festival

Between Christmas and the beginning of January a winter edition of the festival in Orvieto took place since 1992. On November 5, 2012 it was announced that the continuation of the winter festivals in jeopardy because the Italian Ministry of Culture locks the funding as part of the austerity.
