Umlazi

Province

Umlazi is a former township and a borough of Durban and is part of the municipality of eThekwini in the South African province of KwaZulu -Natal. 2001, the population was 388 687 and 2011 404 811 already. The name comes from the legend according to a saying of the Zulu king Shaka, the water did not taste here and there as whey ( isiZulu Umlaza ) designated.

Geography

Umlazi is 17 kilometers south of the Central Business District in Durban and just west of the Durban International Airport and the Southern Industrial Basin. North of Umlazi flows Mlazi River, which forms the border with the neighboring district of Chatsworth. Umlazi is situated at an altitude of 182 meters above sea level. The area of the district is 4,482 acres.

History
