Umm al Samim

Umm as Samim - (Arabic: أم الصميم, DMG Umm aṣ - Samim, also Umm Al Samim, Umm As Samin and similar ) is a Sabcha (flat, occasionally flooded basins ) on the Arabian Peninsula, which is known for its quicksand. It is located on the eastern edge of the Rub al Khali desert, forming roughly the border between Oman and Saudi Arabia.

In the Pliocene and during the Ice Age was a big lake in its place. The first European was Sir Wilfred Thesiger, who visited the area in the 1940s and reported it.
