Umzimkhulu Local Municipality

Umzimkhulu (English Umzimkhulu Local Municipality ) is a town in South Africa's District Sisonke, KwaZulu -Natal. Administrative center of the municipality is the city of Umzimkhulu. The municipality is currently Mphuthumi Mpabanga ago (as of 2011-08-31 ).

The name comes from the isiZulu Umzimkhulu and isiXhosawort for " Big House ".

Only since the beginning of 2006, the municipality belongs to Sisonke. Until then Umzimkhulu belonged to the Eastern Cape. This restructuring brought some difficulties regarding the infrastructure, because the population almost doubled by the incorporation in the district.

The municipality is located in the historical region of Griqualand East. It is surrounded by the rivers Umzimkhulu in the south and in the north Umkhomazi. Are located in the surrounding area cities Ixopo in the east, to the north of Underberg, Matatiele in the west and in the south Kokstad and Harding.
