UN Mandate

The term UN mandate (also a UN mandate ) is used to describe the application of a long-term international ( peace ) mission, which was authorized by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN ) or the UN Security Council. A UN mandate for peacekeepers may be issued under chapter VI or VII of the UN Charter. From a so-called robust mandate referred to in Chapter VII (Article 42) of the UN Charter is when the used " air, sea or land forces necessary to maintain or restore international peace and international security measures " are allowed, that is, there exists a secure legal basis for the use of weapons by the UN peacekeepers. The UN operations in the Congo and East Timor are examples of a robust mandate.
