Music

Uncle Meat is the sixth album by the Mothers of Invention. The album shows a further development of Zappa's music toward jazz and art music - as Zappa saw her. It also includes semi- caricature, half pays homage to elements of doo-wop, blues and rock 'n ' roll, and sound fragments from the film. The album is held together by dreamy melodies, stream - of-consciousness lyrics ( often about places and events from the then teenage life in the suburbs of Los Angeles ) and film- music -like subjects with recurrent in many places variations and repetitions. The six-part piece "King Kong" is similar with his jazz improvisation Zappa's follow-up album Hot Rats, on the with "Son of Mr. Green Genes" and the theme of Uncle Meat - piece "Mr. Green Genes " is resumed.

Critics votes

"It's exciting to hear restless can muscle as one of the most fertile creative minds of the Rock in new territory, even if he does not always know exactly where it goes. Although ... some may miss the gleeful satire Zappa's previous work with the Mothers, makes, Uncle Meats ' uninterrupted abundance of musical ideas it to one of his most fascinating works. "

CD version

1987 Uncle Meat was released as a double CD that contains additional material:

  • A new piece Tengo Na Minchia Tanta ( Sicilian for "I have a big penis " ) sung in Italian by Massimo Bassoli
  • About 40 minutes of audio from the movie.

These additives are not well received by fans and critics partly and (criminal title ) called "penalty tracks" because Tengo Na Minchia Tanta comes from a completely different period in Zappa's career, and the movie sound bites are considered unnecessary. In addition, the publication as a double CD was required by the large multi- scale. The additional material was inserted between the last part of page 3 of the original LP and the first piece of LP- page 4.
