Underlying

As Underlying Underlying or (rarely reference value ) refers to the subject matter of a futures, futures contract or option contract or other derivative, which is used for the completion and evaluation of the contract as a basis.

Goods and financials of all kinds can be underlyings for derivative transactions. They range in products ( " commodities" ) of pork bellies on cattle, sugar, wool, timber, crude oil, copper to gold and platinum. In financial futures they mainly include foreign exchange, bonds such as government bonds and term deposits and equity and other indices. With weather derivatives the underlying is, however, the daily temperature, rainfall, or the like.

Use the best-selling financial products in Germany as underlying the U.S. dollar, government bonds or the DAX.
