Underworld (Band)
Underworld is the principal name of the British electronic duo Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. As of 1991, included the DJ Darren Emerson to the group, but he left in 2000.

History
After various experiences in school bands, the single " Teenage Teenage " brought forth, inter alia, also in 1979 under the project name Screen Gemz, Karl Hyde and Rick Smith formed the early 80s with Bryn B. Burrows, John Warwicker and Alfie Thomas the band Freur which ( " Doot Doot " in 1984 and "Get Us Out of Here " 1985) brought it to two LPs, where " Doot Doot " a small single success was achieved. After disputes with the record company (CBS ), which yielded the second album in a few countries on the market and withdrew the originally planned release as a CD, Freur disbanded in 1985. The rudimentary Soundtrack " transmutation Underworld Score" was not completed, however, was probably eponymous for their next project.
Under the name Underworld released the remaining Hyde, Smith, Thomas Burrows and two albums ( "Underneath the Radar " 1988 and "Change the Weather " 1989 ) with limited success. The first of the two rock -heavy album was produced by Rupert Hine, which the musicians later the Council was, but to concentrate on what really was important to them, namely progressive dancefloor music. Financially independent by Tomato was the " relaunch " of Underworld (Phase MK2 ) with Dubnobasswithmyheadman (1993). This album combined dance and rock style together and was highly praised by critics and at the same time a considerable commercial success. Underworld 1995 production of an exclusive track for the PlayStation game Wipeout. With the re- release of the single "Born Slippy " ( known from the soundtrack to the film Trainspotting - Neue Helden ) was Underworld known to a wide audience ( UK Singles Chart # 2 ), which is also reflected in the sales figures for the album Second Toughest in the Infants (1996 ) reflected. 2001, the title " Doot Doot " was used in the film Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise; However, the title did not appear on the soundtrack. After the departure of Darren Emerson also changed the sound of Underworld, he became increasingly experimental and complex. In 2007 he released the album " Oblivion with Bells". Although a real chart success in Europe and the United States failed to materialize, Underworld are extremely popular in Japan and published many CDs only there. Concert footage of their tour in Japan and Europe in 2007 and 2008 were sold in the port as a CD recording. A highlight of 2008 was the appearance at the Love Parade in Dortmund on 19 July. For Anthony Minghella's film Breaking and Entering - Burglary & Theft (2006) composed Underworld together with Gabriel Yared film music.
2010 returned Underworld back with the album " Barking " and the single " Scribble ". The comparatively melodious guessed album was co-produced by artists like Dubfire, Mark Knight & D. Ramirez, High Contrast and Paul van Dyk. The London held the Olympic Summer Games in 2012 Underworld was musical director of the opening ceremony.
