Ungheni (1944-1989 Унгень Cyrillic, Russian Ungeny ( Унгены ) ) is a small town in Moldova with a population of 32,700 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005). Ungheni located in the homonymous Rajon Ungheni in the western part of Moldavia and is an important border crossing point to Romania. In the same area is the Dealul Bălăneşti.
The first written mention of the city dates from August 20, 1462 and goes back to Ştefan cel Mare.
