Unia (union)

Unia is an intersectoral Swiss union. It organizes the employees ends in industrial, commercial, construction and private services. Unia represents the interests of all employees ends and provides its members with consulting, legal and other services. Unia also leads the largest unemployment fund in Switzerland.

Unia wants to change the balance of power in favor from employees within the workplace. In the Unia 200,000 Employees are merged, the Unia has completed 270 collective agreements, work under which more than a million jobs in Switzerland. The Unia is also active at the political level and is committed to a social and just society. Unia has thus been involved in various initiatives and voting campaigns. Also at several demonstrations and rallies the Unia is actively involved.

History

Unia is by far the largest single union in Switzerland. It was created on October 16, 2004 from the merger of the unions building and industry ( GBI ), Industry Professional Services ( SMSR ), sales trading transport food ( VHTL ), the old ( working in the service sector) as well as the Geneva Unia trade union in the tertiary sector actions. It is the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions ( SGB), Switzerland's largest umbrella organization of unions connected.

Structure

The Unia is legally organized as an association. The governing bodies are the Central Board and the management. The approximately 200,000 members are registered in 14 regions with 45 sections and about 110 local secretariats and depending on the profession include the four fields of construction, commercial, industrial, tertiary sector has. The independently organized Unia unemployment fund has Switzerland's 68 large and small paying agents through which were paid in 2011 over one billion francs from the federal unemployment insurance.
