Unibrow

The synophrys (Greek syn = together; Ophrys = eyebrow ) refers to the merging of the eyebrows. This phenomenon is also known as Rätzel or mono brow, in the English-speaking world as a monobrow or Unibrow.

Synophrys is very rarely due to illness, for example, as a symptom of partial trisomy 3 or due to a malformation. The great majority of people with synophrys has none of these diseases, and the relationship of synophrys with developmental disabilities is generally greatly exaggerated.

The Italian physician Cesare Lombroso (1835-1909) was of the opinion synophrys was a sign by which one could recognize criminals.

A well-known fictional character with pronounced synophrys is Bert from "Sesame Street". Also, the cosmonaut Salizhan Schakirowitsch Sharipov and the basketball player Anthony Davis have grown together eyebrows.
