Unieux
Unieux is a commune with 8702 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Loire department in the Rhône-Alpes region about 10 km southwest of Saint- Étienne. The municipality is part of the Arrondissement of Saint- Étienne and Canton Firminy.
Geography
The city is located on the eastern shore of the Loire and in the valley of Ondaine, about 60 kilometers southwest of Lyon. The municipality is the nature reserve Réserve naturelle régional Saint- Étienne - Gorges de la Loire. The Égotay flows into the Ondaine.
History
1361 the place as Huniaco 1534 as Ugnyeux is mentioned. 1794, the present-day municipality was formed. The rail connection was the church in 1883 ( station Fraisses - Unieux on the railway line Saint -Georges- d'Aurac -Saint -Étienne- Châteaucreux ).
