Unified Socialist Party (France)
The Parti Socialiste unifié (PSU ) (United Socialist Party ) was a French party, which was founded on April 3, 1960 and in 1989 dissolved itself. The PSU was a left-wing party and represented ideas of democratic socialism. In the 70s and early 80s she represented (along with the trade union CFDT ) to the left of the Socialist Party "socialism of self-government " ( socialisme autogestionnaire ) and referred to himself in abutment of the Social Democratic Socialist Party and the Communist Party of France as " Deuxième Gauche ».
Emerged from a fusion of the PSU:
- The Socialist Party autonomous (PSA ), a spin-off of the Section Française de l' International ouvrière ( SFIO )
- The Union de la Gauche Socialiste (UGS ) and
- A splinter group of the Parti Communiste Français, who had gathered around the journal Tribune Communisme you.
Led the party from its founding until 1967 by Édouard Depreux and subsequently thereto until 1973 by Michel Rocard.
1965 supported the PSU along with all other parties of the left spectrum, the presidential candidacy of François Mitterrand. At the presidential election in 1969, the PSU first appeared with its own candidates, its chairman Michel Rocard, and reached with demands for collective self-government in the first round 3.61% of the vote, at the same time the highest result obtained from the PSU ever in presidential elections could be. 1974 supported the PSU for reelection François Mitterrand.
