Painter's mussel ( Unio pictorum )

The river mussels ( Unio ) are a genus within the same family ( Unionidae ). They develop larvae ( glochidia ) are parasitic on fish gills. The three types of U. crassus, U. and U. pictorum Tumidus are native to Central Europe.
