Union County (Illinois)

The Union County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jonesboro.

Geography

The County is located in southern Illinois and is bounded to the west by the Mississippi, which also simultaneously represents the natural border with Missouri. It has an area of 1093 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. At the Union County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Union County was formed on January 2, 1818 from the Johnson County. In the same year Illinois became a state.
