Union County (North Carolina)

Union County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Monroe, named after President James Monroe.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center of North Carolina, on the south by South Carolina and has an area of ​​1657 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cabarrus County, Stanly County, Anson County and Mecklenburg County.

Union County is divided into nine townships: Buford, Goose Creek, Jackson, Lanes Creek, Marshville, Monroe, New Salem, Sandy Ridge and Vance.

History

Union County was formed in 1842 from parts of Anson County and Mecklenburg County.

In early April 2008, the Heilbronner Läpple AG opened its subsidiary LSP Läpple Spartanburg Products in Union County. The plant employs approximately 130 employees and mainly manufactures parts for the BMW X 6 which produced in Spartanburg.
