Union Internationale Motonautique

The Union Internationale Motonautique ( UIM ) is the world governing body of motorized water sports, comparable to the FIA on the automobile and the FIM on the motorcycle sector. It currently comprises 52 national associations (as of 2008). In German-speaking countries are:

  • DMYV ( German Motor Yacht Association ), headquartered in Duisburg
  • Motorboat sports association for Austria, headquartered in Vienna
  • Fédération Suisse Motonautique based in Sessa

The UIM is recognized by the IOC and Member of ARISF and SportAccord.

From the UIM following five disciplines are cared for:

  • Circuit races (English circuit)
  • Offshore Race (german offshore)
  • Jetboat (English aqua -bike )
  • Model boats (german radio- controlled)
  • Water tourism (English pleasure -navigation )

The UIM created for all disciplines of rules that are binding. These are updated annually and published in English only. The UIM performs the calendar with all international competition for racing events and publishes the results. It also gives world and continental championship title with the appropriate medals.

History

Beginning of the 20th century, the first motor boat races were conducted. As a result, formed clubs and national associations to regulate the competitions. In 1907, the national associations of the international umbrella organization International Motor Yacht Association is based in Paris. A year later he was elected to the Association Internationale du Yachting Automobile renamed ( small motorized boats were at that time called " Boats "). By 1915 there were on the American side of efforts to establish a new international racing association, because the AIYA also the rules were only " ... limited by and large to the held annually in Monaco event" and a little outdated. Because of the war there was no foundation. The AIYA broke up in 1918, as the last president, Dr. Busley from Berlin, left the association and has taken all important documents with you.

1922 forced the Briton Dr. Morton Smart and living in Belgium Irishman John Ward a re-establishment of the International Federation under the name Union Internationale du Yachting Automobile ( UIYA ). The inaugural meeting was held from 27 - 29th September 1922 in Brussels. 1952, the name was then changed to the still existing Union International Motonautique. The Association is based Monaco.

President of the UIM Raffaele Chiulli the Italians. He was elected to the General Assembly on 11 November 2007 after the former President Ralf Froehling from Bergisch Gladbach had resigned for health reasons on 10 January 2007. Secretary General since 1992, the Belgian Régine Vanderkerckhove.
