Union of the Workers of Slovakia

Združenie robotníkov Slovenska ( ZRS, Workingmen's Association Slovakia ) is a left-wing party in Slovakia.

History

The ZRS split in 1994 by the Party of the Democratic Left ( Strana demokratickej lavice SDL) from. The SDL MPs Ján Ľupták had left the SDL, as they had participated in an anti - Meciar government. In the parliamentary elections in Slovakia in 1994, she won 7.34 % of the vote and 13 seats occupied in the Slovak Parliament. The ZRS was referred to as anti - reform party. Although itself significant as " agrarian- left", the ZRS entered into a coalition government with the conservative Christian Democratic Movement for a Democratic Slovakia and the nationalist Slovak National Party, one under Prime Minister Vladimir Meciar. The ZRS this occupied the Ministry of Privatisation in order to keep key industries with an opening to the west own borders. To date, the ZRS boasts on its website to have prevented following privatization: privatization in the gas industry, energy, telecommunications, in the field of banking and insurance. At the international level, the ZRS was only briefly linked to the Lambertist ( Trotskyist ) International Liaison Office for a Workers' International. Today, there are no international connections more.

In 2001, the Workers' Party ( Strana Robotnícka, PINK ) split off from the ZRS and received in the parliamentary elections in Slovakia in 2002 0.30%.

According to the polls in May 2010, the ZRS would have a potential of 0.6 % of the vote. The party was admitted to the parliamentary elections in Slovakia in 2010. With this option, the ZRS then with 6,196 votes reached 0.24 % of votes.

The ZRS refuses to join the Communist Party of Slovakia (KSS ) or to the left SMER - Sociálna demokracia from before. The party Ľavicový blok ( Left Block) has joined 2008, the SMER. However, the ZRS and the more social democratic Strana Občianskej Solidarity Party ( civil solidarity ) reject accessions from the past. Nevertheless, the ZRS, KSS and the SOS want to cooperate with each other.

At the parliamentary elections in Slovakia 2012, the ZRS not approached alone and put parliamentary candidates on the list of the Communist Party of Slovakia (KSS ). The two parties aimed at the same time to merge.
