Union of Welsh Independents

The Union of Welsh Independents (Union of Welsh Independents - Welsh: Undeb yr Annibynwyr Cymraeg) is the largest association Congregational churches in Wales. Union to include about 500 communities with approximately 35,000 members. The services are usually held in the Welsh language.

History

The roots of the Union are in the Puritan movement of the 17th century. 1639 was it the first community in Llanfaches, in south-west Wales. 1872, the various congregations merged to form the Union of Welsh Independents.

In the years after 2000, the Union negotiated with other Welsh Free Churches on a merger. However, this was rejected by the majority of the Union's communities, so that the merger did not materialize.
