Union Parish, Louisiana
The Union Parish (French: Paroisse de l' Union) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 22 721 inhabitants and a population density of 10 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Farmersville.
Geography
The Parish is located in northern Louisiana, bordering Arkansas and has an area of 2345 square kilometers, of which 72 square kilometers are water surface.
The largest lake in Union Parish is the Lake D' Arbonne, a reservoir west of Farmerville.

History
The Union Parish was formed in 1839 from parts of the Ouachita Parish.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 living in Union Parish 22,803 people in 8,857 households and 6,412 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 69.79 percent White, 27.95 percent Black or African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.26 percent from other races groups; 0.50 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.02 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 8,857 households out of which 31.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.3 percent were married couples living together, 13.7 percent were single mothers, 27.6 percent were non-families, 24.9 percent of all households and 11.0 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 25.7 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,061, and the median income for a family was $ 36,035. Males have a median income of $ 30,494, women $ 21,070. The per capita income was $ 14,819. 14.3 percent of families 18.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 25.6 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 17.7 percent of those 65 years.
