Union Township is a township in Union County, New Jersey, United States. In the 2000 census, a total population of 54 405 has been registered. Union was founded in 1808.

According to the census of 2000, there are 54 405 people, 19,534 households, and 14,162 families residing in the city. The population density is 2303.3 persons per km ². 67.66 % of the population are White, 19.76 % African American, 0.15 % Native American, 7.72 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander, 2.44 % from other races, and 2.24% mixed race. 8.93% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 19,534 households 32.0% have children under 18 years. 55.5 % are married couples living together, 13.1% are single mothers, 27.5 % are non-families, 23.8 % consists of single-person households and 13.3% in people older than 65, the average household size is 2, 71, the average family size is 3.25.

22.3 % of the population are under the age of 18, 8.9 % from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 22.3% between 45 and 64, 17.3% older than 65 is the average age 39 years. The ratio of women to men is 100:87,9, for people older than 18 years, the ratio 100:83,2.
