Unique Forms of Continuity in Space

Unique Forms of Continuity in Space (it.: Forme Uniche della nello spazio continuità ) is a sculpture from 1913 by Umberto Boccioni. The Futurist Boccioni wanted to pose with the sculpture of a person in motion. The sculpture was the fourth draft of a series of border people and is the only one that remained. The work shown here is part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Background

Early 20th century, many artists interested in motion or their representation. Pioneer / key figures were here among other Eadweard Muybridge ( motion studies ), Théophile Steinlen ( It Burns! ), Giacomo Balla ( Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash ) and Marcel Duchamp ( Nude, Descending a Staircase No. 2, 1912).
