United American Lines

The United American Lines (UAL ) was an American shipping company based in New York and operated a transatlantic liner service in close cooperation with the German Hapag, also there was a trans-Pacific service which led to the Panama Canal.

History

1920, the United American Lines was founded by the American William H. Harriman, a member of the Harriman family. The company presented a joint of the American Ship & Commerce Corporation Venture, a subsidiary of the American - Hawaiian Line ( Harriman Group ), and the German Hapag represents the vessels of the shipping company were easily identified by a yellow chimney with two narrow blue bands.

After the end of the First World War, the Hapag looking for a partner to gain a foothold in the international shipping business again. This partner found the Hapag in the Harriman family, who had just taken over even a pair from the store shipped German ships and this would also perform an insert. Between William H. The service ran from New York via the Panama Canal to San Francisco. This service line was a main route from Harriman actual shipping company, the American Hawaiian Line.

The vessels used were for the most part former Hapag - ships. The service has developed quite well, but the Americans were quickly overtaken by its German partner who was able to recover very quickly. 1926, the ships on the transatlantic route of UAL were sold to Hapag and set this service. The trans-Pacific service was kept alive by the other ships and set with its sale, as well as the United American Lines.
