United Hockey League

The International Hockey League ( IHL short, formerly Colonial Hockey League, short Cohl and United Hockey League, short UHL ) was a professional ice hockey league that consisted of teams from the United States. The League headquarters was in Rochester, Michigan. The League described himself as a mid-level minor league, but was officially classified as low-level League.

History

Founded in the league in 1991 under the name Colonial Hockey League ( Cohl ) with teams from Brantford, Detroit, Flint, St. Thomas and Thunder Bay. The league changed its name prior to the 1997/98 season in United Hockey League ( UHL ). Over the years, the participating teams in the league frequently changed.

The 2006/07 season started the league with ten teams. After this season, the league was reduced to six teams since the Port Huron Flags, the Chicago Hounds, the Quad City Mallards and Rockford IceHogs einstellten the operation of gambling and the Elmira Jackals in the ECHL changed. As a new franchise, the Port Huron Icehawks were taken.

In summer 2007, the league changed its name to International Hockey League ( IHL ), based on the same league that existed from 1945 to 2001 and in its early days had teams from Flint, Fort Wayne, Kalamazoo and Muskegon. Three of the current teams come from these cities. On 1 June 2010, the league announced together with the Central Hockey League cooperation from the 2010/11 season known. The five IHL teams switched to this season in the CHL, IHL, however, remained the official organizing committee exist.

Trophies

The Tarry Cup was awarded to the team that had won in the regular season the most points. The championship trophy Colonial Cup was the winner of the play-offs of the IHL. The name of the trophy dates back to the time when the league Cohl ( Colonial Hockey League) was called. From 2008 to 2010, the trophy was named Turner Cup.
