The British general election, 1951 took place shortly after the British general election in 1950, which the Labour Party had won with a very slim majority. Labour called a general election on October 25, 1951 to win more seats in hope. Although Labour were gaining votes, it lost because of the electoral system on the seats. The Conservative Party also gained additional votes. Although she still lay in votes behind the Labour Party, she received more seats than this. The Liberal Party lost more than two-thirds of their votes and was behind the National Liberal Party only fourth strongest party.

Successor of Prime Minister Clement Attlee ( Labour ) was the Conservative Winston Churchill, who had already held the post from 1940 to 1945.
