United National Convention

The United National Convention (UNC ) was a political party in Ghana, founded during the Third Republic of Ghana between 1979 and 1981.

Election results

In the presidential elections ( National Assembly) on 18 June 1979 candidate William Ofori Atta, one of the Big Six of Ghana, as a candidate for the UNC and won 17.4 percent of the vote ( 311,265 votes in total). The party won 13 of the then 140 seats of the National Assembly. In these elections, the UNC was in the political tradition of the former Prime Minister Kofi Busia and Joseph Boakye Danquah Abrefa and was similar in the political orientation of the Popular Front Party (PFP ).

After the elections in 1979, which emerged from the elections as the strongest People's National Party (PNP ) and the UNC merged to form a coalition government. In October 1980, the UNC left the coalition and went into the All People's Party, a coalition of several parties, on.
