United Nations Charter

The United Nations Charter ( Charter of, pronunciation [ karta ...]), in Austria the United Nations Charter, the founding treaty and thus the " constitution" of the United Nations (UN). It was signed by 50 of the 51 founding members on 26 June 1945 in San Francisco. Due to incomplete formation of a government in Poland, a free space was left for that country in the document. The associated signature was executed on June 28, 1945 which Poland became the 51st founding member. The Charter entered into force on 24 October 1945 after being ratified by the then five permanent members of the Security Council (France, Soviet Union ( since 1991, the Russian Federation), China ( 1945 to 1971 represented by the Republic of China, represented since 1971 by the people's Republic of China), United Kingdom, United States of America ) and the majority of other signatories had ratified it.

The Charter as a treaty under international law binds all members under the relevant provisions of international law. Amendments to the Charter require a two- thirds majority of the members of the General Assembly, including the approval of all five permanent members of the Security Council.
