United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation

The Scientific Committee of the United Nations to Investigate the Effects of Atomic Radiation (United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, UNSCEAR ) deals with the effects of nuclear technology and radioactivity. Currently 21 states appoint members of the Committee established in 1955. It meets once a year (most recently in May 2007 in Vienna) and published at irregular intervals reports that serve the ICRP as one of the bases for their recommendations on national radiation protection legislation. To date (2007) 15 reports have been published that are available on the Internet. Germany has been involved since 1973. The Federal Office for Radiation Protection determines the respective delegation.
