United Nations Security Council Resolution 1203

Resolution 1203 of the UN Security Council, it was decided having regard to the Council resolutions 1160, 1199, and on the importance of a peaceful resolution to the Kosovo conflict on 24 October 1998. The Security Council calls it by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to comply with the resolutions already adopted and to cooperate with NATO and the Kosovo Verification Mission of the OSCE.

The Security Council demands that the Kosovo conflict should be resolved peacefully and that the territory of Kosovo should receive greater autonomy and a more far-reaching self-government. Furthermore, it is required that the Yugoslav authorities and the leaders of the Kosovo Albanians to enter immediately into a dialogue without preconditions and with international involvement, which leads to an end to the crisis and to a negotiated political solution to the Kosovo issue.

The Kosovo Albanians are asked to renounce terrorism and to pursue their goals by peaceful means. Likewise, it is required that the authorities of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the leadership of the Kosovo Albanians to work together to ensure to improve the humanitarian situation and to prevent the looming humanitarian disaster. Furthermore, the Member States and other stakeholders resources for humanitarian assistance in the region are to provide.

The resolution 1203 of the UN Security Council calls for the investigation of all crimes committed atrocities against civilians as well as cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in particular by following his instructions and requests for information and the support of his investigations.

The resolution was adopted with 13 votes in favor and two abstentions from China and Russia.
