United Nations Security Council Resolution 1691

Resolution 1691 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the admission of the Republic of Montenegro to the United Nations, adopted unanimously on 22 June 2006 at its 5473rd session of the United Nations Security Council.

With the resolution of the Security Council of the United Nations General Assembly has proposed that Montenegro is admitted to membership of the United Nations.

After the declaration of independence of Montenegro on 3 June 2006, Serbia was under international law, the legal successor of Serbia and Montenegro, and had therefore retain membership in the United Nations. As a result, put Montenegro on June 5, 2006, application for admission, that thus committing itself to accept the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and respect, as well as to comply with the very specific rules.
