United Nations Security Council Resolution 1695

The Resolution 1695 of the UN Security Council was adopted on 15 July 2006 of the UN Security Council at its 5490 session. Unanimously and prohibits the sale of material to North Korea, which would the ability of this country to increase to continue its development program for ballistic missiles. The resolution also condemns the test launch of a missile, which was conducted by North Korea on 5 July 2006.

The text of the resolution is a compromise between the United States, Japan and France, which had favored a stricter opinion, as well as the People's Republic of China and Russia, who wanted a less strict formulation. The resolution refers to the request of China and Russia on Article VII of the Charter of the United Nations. The resolution, which was introduced by the United States and Japan, was rejected almost immediately by North Korea.
