United Nations Security Council Resolution 1705

Resolution 1705 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, adopted unanimously on 29 August 2006 at its 5518th meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

With the resolution, the term of office of the Ugandan judge Solomy Balungi Bossa ad litem has been extended until the case is finished Butare. The President had determined that the process is expected to continue beyond the scheduled end of the term of office of Judge Bossa on 24 June 2007 addition. With the decision is overruled Article 12 ter of the Statute of the International Tribunal for Rwanda and Bossa allowed to exceed the term of office for which they were appointed to office.

The measure was proposed by the Secretary General of the United Nations. ( The Security Council decided in its subsequent Resolution 1717 on the extension of the term of eleven other judges. )
