United Nations Security Council Resolution 1721

The resolution 1721 of the UN Security Council is a resolution unanimously adopted on 1 November 2006 at its 5561 session., The United Nations Security Council. The resolution dealt with the situation in the Ivory Coast and confirmed the Council for Peace and Security of the African Union, the mandate of the President of Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo decision and the Prime Minister Charles Konan Banny for a maximum period up to 31 October 2007 extend. The African Union had decided this step at their meeting in Addis Ababa on October 17.

The decision is against the background that the term of office of President Laurent Gbagbo has ended on 30 October 2005 and the term of the National Assembly on 16 December 2005 had expired.
