United Nations Security Council Resolution 338

On October 22, 1973, the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 338 called for a cease-fire and the end of the Yom Kippur War between the united forces of Syria and Egypt against Israel.

The Security Council,

The resolution was at the 1747th meeting of the Security Council by 14 votes adopted without a dissenting vote (then, the People's Republic of China took over the seat in the Security Council is not it ).

Since Israel had repulsed the attack at this time and its Arab neighbors Egypt and Syria had thereby suffered heavy losses, the three countries contributed to the appeal of the international community succession. On the same day ended the fighting on the northern front (Syria ), on October 24, also in the south ( Egypt). Short-term result of the Yom Kippur War, the oil crisis of 1973, long-term, new possibilities of negotiation that led the Israeli- Egyptian peace treaty of Camp David and the recognition of Israel by Egypt in 1979 showed.
