Demarcation from other parties

This new UPKO stood in no relation to former United Pasokmomogun Kadazan Organisation, which was also abbreviated with the acronym UPKO. [Note 1]. The name of the "new UPKO " contains an equal footing, the words " Kadazandusun " and " Murut " and the logo of the party is no longer the water buffalo but the silhouette of Mount Kinabalu. Most political observers also assume that the predominant in the earlier UPKO " Kadazandusun - nationalism " in today's UPKO has no meaning.

Despite similar names, they must not be confused with the United Pasok party momogun Organization ( Pertubuhan Pasok momogun Bersatu ). [Note 2]

ISA legislation

On 23 September 2008, the Secretary-General turned the UPKO, Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau, and three of his colleagues from the Barisan Nasional - the Secretaries-General of the parties MCA, Gerakan and MIC from Kota Kinabalu to the Prime Minister. They demanded a review of the Internal Security Act (ISA ) [note 3] Madius declared that his party would support the position of the former de facto Justice Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, after which the ISA should only be used against persons who threaten the national security, or about terrorists. He pointed out that in most cases other laws of public policy can be applied. [Note 4]
