United States Chess Federation

The United States Chess Federation ( USCF ) is the National Chess Federation of the United States.

This was founded in 1939 by the merger of the American Chess Federation and the National Chess Federation and represented by its own account today about 2200 chess clubs and 90,000 members. The state with the most members is Texas ( 7856 ), while in Wyoming belong to only 58 players in the USCF. The oldest existing club is the Mechanics ' Institute Chess Club in San Francisco (founded in 1855). We should also mention the traditional Marshall Chess Club in New York.

The association is a member of the World Chess Federation FIDE. His tasks include the organization of national championships and other tournaments (including correspondence chess ) and the young talent. It also publishes the monthly chess magazine Chess Life. Since 1960, the USCF used, developed by Prof. Arpad Elo rating system ( Elo ratings ). Based on the rating numbers it assigns national championship titles. In 1984 she founded the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame.

A large increase in membership experienced the USCF from 1972, when Bobby Fischer won the title of world chess champion. 2002 Fischer, however, was excluded because of its anti - American statements from the organization.
