United States Department of Labor

The Department of Labor of the United States (English United States Department of Labor, DOL) is part of the Federal Government of the United States and among others responsible for safety, wages, working hours, unemployment insurance, placement of job seekers and professional development. The Ministry based in Washington, D.C. employs in the year 2004, around 17,500 people.

The U.S. Congress already founded in 1884 Office of Labour, located under the Ministry of Interior. This Labour Office ( Bureau of Labor ) was extended to the labor ministry, but did not get the desired value and influence. On February 14, 1903, went to the Ministry of Commerce and Labor. William Howard Taft, former President, signed on March 4, 1913 ( the last day of his term ) the documents to separate the two ministries, the Ministry of Labour so that could act as an independent authority.
