United States Hockey League

The United States Hockey League ( USHL short ) is the main Junior Hockey League in the United States. The League existed until 2006, eleven teams. Prior to the 2006/07 season the league was increased to twelve teams. Only players allowed to play that are 20 years and younger in the league. The teams are located in the west and center of the United States. The USHL is a total amateur league and the players are not paid by the teams. This allows former USHL players in the NCAA to play that receives only athletes who have earned no money in the sport before they go to college.

The league started in 1973 and was first, a semi-professional league, in 1979 it became a purely amateur league. Many of USHL players play later in college and in the professional sector. The teams in the NHL had 2003/ 04 38 former USHL players in their ranks in the season.

On 3 May 2006 Columbus was awarded the contract for a new USHL franchise, which began with a team in the 2006/07 season. Following the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, the team was named Ohio Junior Blue Jackets.

The Anderson Cup is awarded to the winner of the regular season since the 1979/80 season.

Clark Cup

The Clark Cup (named after Donald M. Clark) will be awarded to the winner of the playoffs since the 1979/80 season.

Season winners (1961-1979)

Between 1961 and 1979 it was trading at the USHL to a semi-professional league, the only elected the winner at the end of the season.
