United States Senate elections, 2002

On 5 November 2002, the Senate was elected to the United States. The election was part of the mid-term elections in 2002, which also addresses the House of Representatives was elected.

In the Senate, each of the 50 states two deputies. Before the election, 49 senators Republicans, 50 Democrats and one independent. In 34 states, a senator in 2002 each newly elected, the term of office of the remaining 66 senators ended in 2004 and 2006 respectively. Among the standing for election seats so far 14 have been held by Democrats and 19 by Republicans. The Republicans gained two more seats at the expense of the Democrats.
